At least you don't have to worry too much about tomatoes
If you’re trying to lose weight, you really have to get your portion sizes under control especially if you’re following a calorie controlled diet plan or a points system.
It’s all too easy just to guess and think you are eating about the right amount and then shock, horror, the end of the week comes and you haven’t lost an ounce or, worse, you’ve gained a pound.
Health.com has come up seven answers to help you be more precise with your measurements. They have a slide show with seven special gadgets that can help you see just how much you are consuming. You’ll find
- A wine glass by Wine-Trax, which has measures up the side so you can see how much you’re really pouring. I’m sure I can’t be the only person who got extra tipsy in a fancy restaurant with those big goblets where you can’t tell how much you are drinking. A glass like this will help you reduce the calories you consume in liquid form. A cheaper alternative would be to use a simple measuring jug. I think pouring your wine into a smaller glass helps you feel less deprived too.
- A Healthy Steps Portion Control Ice Cream Scoop which gives you a measured half cup at a time. No more eating straight from the carton where you just can’t stop once you start. Get a scoop of ice cream. Shut the container. Put it back in the freezer. No going back. You know you can do it!
- Some gorgeous measuring cups, a million miles from white plastic that will be a pleasure to use when you are measuring out snacks like nuts
- Slimware plates which give you a graphic indication of where the food should go – right on the pretty floral design in the center (just be careful you don’t heap it up instead!)
- A baby cup cake maker to reduce the size of your treats – only problem with this one is that you might not be able to stop at one. I can just hear me now “They are so small another one won’t hurt…”. Better not to bake at all, I’m afraid. Baking just leads to eating. You know I’m right…
- A gadget for getting the spicing right in your dishes. As spices contain next to no calories this is not going to help you lose much weight directly. But, when you use spice in the right way it can make diet food more tantalizing and less like a penance you have to pay for being fat and that can help you stick to a healthy eating plan
- A citrus press/measuring cup for getting a measured amount of lemon or orange juice. I wondered how helpful this one was too but if you tend to go overboard with fruit juice it’s easy to consume loads of calories with a seemingly healthy drink that can actually pile on the pounds so it may be useful to you.
