Happy New Year! It’s time for making those beauty resolutions again and hopefully ones which will last beyond the first week of 2012. I’m trying not to make anything too difficult to keep to this year – I don’t want to be beating myself up all the time – but I have picked out the ones that I think will make the most difference with the least effort involved. I have given up trying to make any resolutions that involve joining a gym, starving myself or living off weird food combinations. They are just not going to happen any time soon!
Leg Diet
Though I don’t really need to lose weight as such – I try never let things get more than a couple of pounds out of hand without doing something about it – I would like my legs to be a bit slimmer. I blame it on my session with a personal shopper in 2011, who got me into wearing a few shorter dresses and skirts with opaque tights and boots. I just think the bits now on show would look better if there was a bit less of them.
Losing a bit of weight from my legs will mean losing a bit of weight from all over, so we’ll see how that goes.
I can usually lose weight when I need to just by paying attention to the amount of food I’m eating – only eating when I’m actually hungry and then stopping before I’ve eaten too much. I’m also going to do my usual daily yoga routine and follow my own pedometer walking program so that should have my legs in shape soon enough and looking their best for spring.
Experiment More
I tend to stick with what I know when it comes to makeup colors and application and just have a few looks I like for different occasions (at least for myself). But if blogging has taught me anything, it’s that there is a world of color and methods out there that work just as well and would give me a bit more variety to play with – and I’ll have more fun getting ready every day and choosing my makeup of the day. I don’t think I’ll have so many looks I’ll start a MOTD (makeup of the day) series but maybe I’ll get so inspired I’ll do exactly that.
Pay Attention to Detail
It’s the little things that count when it comes to looking good but so often I get caught up in everything going on in my life and don’t get around to things that I know would be good for me. Case in point, I stopped biting my nails last year so I could have them looking good for my niece’s wedding but I haven’t really made the most of them since then. I haven’t started biting again but I haven’t exactly had them looking beautifully manicured every day with fresh polish etc. So I’m going to get a routine together that makes sure all the details are taken care of regularly – not just when I notice something needs sorting out.
Continue Skin Softening Treatment
I made a resolution a few weeks ago here that was just about preventing the dry skin I usually get on my arms over winter from appearing and so far so good, my upper arms are soft and smooth. Even my sore red elbow has disappeared 🙂 I’m going to keep that up and add my legs into the routine – they will deserve some pampering for managing to get slim LOL
Try More Expensive Products
I have been a bit of a beauty meanie in the past. It’s not that I don’t enjoy a luxury product as much as the next girl but there have been too many other things to pay for like food, housing and college fees. I always thought that most luxury products were a bit over-hyped anyway so it didn’t bother me too much, though there are one or two high end products I think are worth the money like Yves saint Laurent Touche Eclat.
A few weeks ago I was sent a night cream to review that I honestly believed I wouldn’t like more than my cheapie Avon stuff. Actually I’m a bit gutted that it worked so well I’d like to continue using it as this will create a little hole in my budget but my skin really does feel and look better so I am going to splash out. And that has got me thinking, what else could I be using that would make a difference to everything else, like my hair for example. I’m growing my hair long (or at least longer) and it probably deserves better than a drugstore shampoo. Like those L’Oreal ads I’m going to say “Because You’re Worth It” a bit more in 2012!
