Here’s a Rihanna makeup tutorial inspired by the “We Found Love” music video.

In her “We Found Love” video, Rihanna has a great Latina look with bold eyes and lips, and swept up curls with a bandana. You probably need dark hair and olive skin to carry this one off well but if you do then have a go and have fun. That’s what makeup is all about…
In case you don’t have time to keep going over the video here are the instructions and products used along with my 2 cents, but you’ll probably need to watch it at least once to get the exact technique and effects. The text will just serve as a reminder if you want to follow along or do this again.
- Use MAC Painterly eye makeup primer to create a good base for your eye makeup. This helps your makeup last longer and also makes the colors appear more vibrant
- Using eye shadows from the Maybelline Chai Latte color palette, apply the light brown color to the crease of the eye and then go over the outer part of the crease with the dark brown matte color taking it around beneath the eye and half way along the lower lash line.
- Blend the colors using a clean brush so that there are no hard edges
- Apply the lightest color from the palette as a highlighter along the brow bone
- Apply luminous eye shadow (Jest by MAC) on the inner half of the upper eye lid and blend
- Line your eyes with a black eyeliner pencil, including the waterline and going right to the inner corners (you may want to skip the inner corners if you have smaller eyes than Rihanna) See this article on How to Apply Eyeliner for more help with putting on eyeliner.
- Smudge the eye liner to soften the line a little and pick up any messiness with a Q-tip
- Apply white eyeliner to the center of the waterline. For info on white eyeliner see White Eyeliner application tips. Rimmel Jet Black and White Out was used for both black and white eyeliner.
- Curl your eyelashes and give them several coats of black mascara or use false eyelashes and mascara if you lack Rihanna like lashes
- Apply lip liner and bold red lipstick of your choice. In the tutorial a brown eye liner is used as lip liner but that will not look good for anyone with fairer skin or lighter lips so just go with a liner that matches your lips (or failing that your lipstick). Either apply your lipstick with a lipstick brush or clean up the outline with one if you apply straight from the tube. (You need to make sure that the line is perfect if you are wearing a bold color so don’t miss out this step)
- Apply blush to cheeks and temples (See How To Apply Blush Properly)
- If you want Rihanna style hair, have your hair in hot rollers while you are applying your makeup then let your hair out and pin your curls loosely on top of your head before tying a bandana around them.
