With all the fuss in the media at the moment about Kim Kardashian and her 72 day marriage to NBA star husband, Kris Humphries, it’s time to think of more positive things like makeup and beauty!
No matter whether her marriage was a publicity stunt or a relationship gone horribly wrong fast, you have to say, the woman looks good. (And whereas everyone else looks like death when they are breaking up or getting divorced, she will probably look a million dollars through that as well).
To give Kim the benefit of the doubt, maybe she already had second thoughts at the ceremony and felt she couldn’t pull out.
I have a good friend who recently confessed, years after her divorce, that she knew she should not be standing there in a white dress saying “I do” but everyone was waiting expectantly at the church and her parents had spent so much money on the wedding, she just went though with it.
And if you have $18m worth of sponsorship and the world’s media banking on you getting married, the pressure is, no doubt, all the greater.
Then again, I could just be being naive because there seems to have been a lot of outrageous publicity stunts in the course of her career.
We all know that beauty does not guarantee success in life or in relationships, but it sure helps you find another partner, should you so wish, so I’m sure that Kim will get on with her life, if her marriage has definitely failed.
Meanwhile we can just learn from her makeup tricks in this “oldie but goodie” Kim Kardashian eye makeup tutorial using Mac makeup.
This is a smoky eye look using silver and gray, with dark liner and is a fairly easy look to achieve whether or not you look like Kim. Here are the basics from the video, including the products used. You’ll need to watch the video to get the full effect, but this should help as a handy reminder if you want to try out the look yourself.
- Start off with Mac’s cream color base in pearl and rub it all over the eye area with your finger, blending in so that you have an even base
- Using MAC’s 239 flat shader brush, apply Silver fog or Electra (any light silver color will do) eye shadow to the inner third of the eye lid. Pack it on at this stage rather than blending
- Using the same brush, apply Chard eyeshadow (a darker silver) on the outer part of the lid, without going up into the crease. Blend the darker silver color into the lighter one with the brush
- Using MAC brush 217, a stiff dome shaped brush, apply Print eyeshadow (a dark gray color) to the outer V of the eye and into the crease (to about half way across the eye) keep to the crease line as much as possible. Blend outwards (rather than upwards) to give the smoky effect.
- Apply black shadow like MAC’s Tide over the top just in the outer part to darken it a bit, but flick the brush to get rid of any excess shadow before applying so it is not too dark or messy
- Use the same 217 brush to apply Vanilla into the crease (clean the brush after applying the black shadow!) and blend so there are no harsh lines from the dark colors
- Apply White Frost, a shimmery white powder as a highlighter under the eyebrow
- Apply Black Tide under the lower lashes with a small dome brush from the outer corner of the eye and about a third of the way along the lower lash line
- Apply Chard dark silver shimmery color on the middle third of the lower eyelashes and blend it in to the Black Tide
- Apply Silver Fog on the inner third of the lower lash line and around the tear duct
- Apply black eyeliner around the eye without smudging using Urban Decay’s 24/7 pencil or MAC’s Ebony eyeliner pencil. Get very close to the upper lashes and right down to the tear duct and go along the waterline right to the tear duct for your lower lashes. See How to Apply Eyeliner for help with this step.
- Add several coats of black mascara or use false eyelashes if your eyelashes need help. Recommended mascaras in the video are Clinique’s High Definition which has both a brush and a comb and L’Oreal Voluminous
